It's been an exhausting non-stop three days of fun at AniRevo 2013, and we have nothing but exciting content to share with everyone. AniRevo's second year in action did not disappoint, and the quality of special guests, panels, cosplayers and exhibitors certainly did not either. The special guests this year included the highly prolific Yamaguchi Kappei, and the legendary Furuya Toru, both of whom we managed to exclusively interview! This post serves as a brief summary of what to expect in the coming weeks as we post updates on our exclusive interviews and photos.
Once again held in the East Building of the Vancouver Convention Centre, the amount of attendees has undoubtedly gone up from last year. We're always happy to catch up with friends in the industry and meet new comrades right at home in Vancouver. Whether it's the panels or the cosplayers, the special guests or just to have an opportunity to have fun, AniRevo has something for everyone, and this year was no different.
One of the best parts of attending an anime convention has to be the sheer number of cosplayers that are present. AniRevo has seen its fair share of quality cosplays, but this year cosplayers have really upped the ante. Even Jessica Nigri cosplayed as Senkaku Mei, AniRevo's mascot! Check out all the photos we took of cosplayers at AniRevo 2013 in our Flickr gallery below.
Having the chance to interview both Yamaguchi Kappei and Furuya Toru, both of whom have such long histories voicing many famous and now classic characters, was quite the experience. Anxious fans lined up for hours to get a chance to obtain an autograph from the two highly prolific voice actors.
In addition to photos, we're hard at work on our exclusive video interviews with Yamaguchi Kappei and Furuya Toru, which will be posted within the next few weeks!
The list of Japanese guests didn't just stop at voice actors though. Iconic lolita fashion brand Angelic Pretty, made their first Canadian debut at AniRevo. Chief designer duo Maki and Asuka are two of the most prestigious designers throughout the lolita fashion community, and it was immediately clear why as soon as their fashion show began, featuring one-of-a-kind styles with a sense of delicacy, elegance, and intricacy that is simply unmatched.
From things to buy in the dealers' room,
To the maid café and itashas,
AniRevo has really made it clear that they've put in work to truly diversify the amount of things to see and do this year, a definite improvement over their first year! All in all, another stellar year of anime culture in the city of Vancouver.
We would like to thank Can Ngo once again for another successful year of AniRevo in Vancouver, as well as everyone who helped us with photography and videography of our exclusive interviews with Yamaguchi Kappei and Furuya Toru, including D.I.S/C Photography in collaboration with Cosplay Victoria, and UBC Anime Club for letting us use their booth in the dealers' hall as a place of refuge once our tired legs simply refused to let us walk any further.
